Virtual communities (where people are brought together by the internet)
There are many forms of virtual communities that allow people to connect and communicate with each other. the most popular of these are social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Facebook provides pages for people to bring communities together through by sharing common interest and a similarity in the subjects they like, plus on sites such as Facebook it allows you to connect through messages and communicate on common interests and meet new people and make new friends, however you have to be cautious of how you approach people on the internet as they may not actually be who they appear through the internet. Sites like Twitter allow you to share your opinions, thoughts, interests and likes etc. so that you can become more involved with people similar to yourself and to some people gives them a sense of freedom and somewhere to share and talk to people abut something both you and them thoroughly enjoy. Tumblr is a post related website where a post is put and people can repost and comment on things that they wish and is also a place where many fandoms seek refuge to find other people similar to themselves. Blogs are also another way in which many virtual communities exist and communicate with each other by all talking on a topical interest which they can also all give advice and support to each other trough. Another way that is constantly and rapidly growing in popularity are video chat services such as Skype and Google Hangout which allows you to physically see those who you want to talk to and can have a much higher level of interaction than through other websites and forms.

I agree with this post. there are different ways in which a person can interact with people. in some ways the people you are talking to may be not who you are expecting or they may well be the person you want to talk to. the ways in which people interact with people on these sites such as Facebook and YouTube you can talk to friends or just comment on people you don't know.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of future do you think virtual communities will have? And what potential is there with new technology?
ReplyDeleteAnother form of virtual communities is online games. These have allowed users from all over the world communicate and interact over the same interest. Online games has also benefited sites like Skype as many gamers are actively using Skype while they game to connect with friends who are playing the same game.

ReplyDeleteYes gaming u another key aspect to virtual communities an I am surprised I forgot it as I game myself! It's probably one of the largest virtual communities that people partake in using the Internet as it uses consoles an computers both through the Internet. And yes Harvey I agree that they have helped program's such as Skype as its used by gamers outside of their own community. Macaulay I believe that these types of communities can only grow but may suffer complications due to the lack of identity through virtual communities.
